The recent Supreme Court ruling overturning the District of Columbia handgun ban has again brought the gun issue into the public square for discussion. A classic line for gun defenders is "guns don't kill people, people do;" in a play on this, the sign-holder above asks if "pens misspell words." Unfortunately, this seems like the wrong question to ask. A better question would be this: what are pens for? Most people would reasonably answer, "writing." Following this logic, the next question becomes: what are guns for?
