Interests and traditions

Let’s see, what haven’t we mentioned yet? Kirstin sings in a community choral group called the Brandenburg Concert, which offers several free concerts each year. Rob follows the Chicago sports teams throughout the year and is a community development geek, constantly exploring ways of making neighborhoods great places to live for all people. Many have said he should run for mayor of our small city someday, or at least city commissioner. Together, we enjoy making and listening to music, biking, traveling, taking long walks around our city, and watching all kinds of films, especially at the historic theatre across the street from the apartment. Since early 2017, we’ve participated in a local community organizing group that is working to increase voter turnout so that everyone has a voice in the policies that impact them.

Underlying all of these interests is our commitment to try to live as followers of Jesus. For us, that involves being connected to a local church that values and practices non-violence and actively cares for the poor and for the earth. Our church community is a diverse group of people who have been a great source of support, learning, and inspiration for us. We look forward to welcoming our child into this faith community where they will hear meaningful stories and learn to respect and love all people as God does, and to work for a society in which all can flourish.
