About Rob
When I was a child, I earned the nickname “Curious George” from my family because I got into everything. Some of my earliest memories are of building Lego cities with my brother, running around the yard with friends and cousins while climbing and jumping off everything possible, drawing my own line of football cards and starting a “small business” to sell them, and playing basketball in the driveway with our neighbors. In high school, inspired by Nirvana, several friends decided to start a band; so, we all learned to play instruments and went about booking gigs. I also started spending a lot more time in record shops and book stores, endlessly tracking down new and interesting things to explore. Theater and journalism gave me opportunities to live into other people’s stories, allowing me to see different perspectives on the world.
My curiosity about an endlessly fascinating world filled with amazing people is still a driving force in my life. Today, I help run a community development organization that owns an old elementary school that we’re working to transform into a hub of creativity in our community. I’m an urban farmer, a community organizer, an event planner, a designer, and an entrepreneur. Underneath it all, a constant soundtrack of great music and a steady stream of good books keeps me energized and learning. Alongside Kirstin, I’m eager to share these kinds of experiences of the world with a child and to be inspired by their creative responses as they do their own exploring.
